Career Success

To Achieve Career Success You Need
Direction
Okay - at the start you've got the attitude
correct, the right skill set sharpened, and the right
philosophy. You have a head start - to somewhere. If you
don't have these necessary things in place, you'll simply
wander aimlessly with no clear plan of direction to
follow.
You don't build a house without a plan, and
yet many people work in occupations they just happened to
come across by chance, at someone's suggestion, or a
friend was doing it, or circumstances led them into it,
or they didn't have anything else to
do.
Rambling through your career can be just as
dangerous as rambling through thick bush without a
compass or water - in both places, you can become
extremely exhausted and lose your will to keep
going.
You must decide where you want to go in
life in order to set a clear direction for your future
and career. You've probably heard the old adage "No one
plans to fail, but they do fail to plan." So determine
where it is that you want to go and what you want to
achieve and set a course for it.
I recommend doing something you enjoy and
are passionate about. Not something you just tolerate or
gain a reasonable pension from after 30 years of work,
but something you have a very strong passion
about.
If it is art, think about how you may be
gifted in that area. Do you paint? Would your painting
charm the critics worldwide? Do you have an eye for
detail? Do you currently paint as a hobby? Now consider
the field of professional golf for a moment. Do you love
to play golf? Would you be willing to commit days, weeks,
months and years to bettering your game to the point that
you could hit the pro circuit? Remember there has to be
strong commitment in order to achieve your
goals.
Now that you know where you want to go, you
must plan and prepare for your destination. As you plan
and prepare, it's reasonable to expect that you will
achieve that goal - expectations play a major role in
success, no matter where you are headed. If you plan well
and are committed to the work involved, then and only
then can you hope to achieve the desired results in your
life.
